We noticed small huts parked in rows close the river and figure they are fishing huts waiting to be dragged onto the ice after the freeze-over.
We stopped for lunch at Le Chateau Montebello. Famous for visits by world leaders, we wandered its property and the lobby of the world's largest log structure. The resort is open year round and focuses on active living. We pondered the dining room but decided to forego the linen tablecloths and head into town where we heard about a good place to eat.
Good decision: we sat on the balcony of the 1913 heritage house (formerly a doctor's home and office) and had a fabulous lunch. The rain started just as we left and we dashed into Montebello Fromagerie for some wonderful fresh tete a papineau cheese and some cheddar curds to go.
We are now reconnoitering in the outskirts of Montreal before heading into old town for two days' stay.
