We decided to buy a two-day hop-on, hop-off bus ticket to give us an initial introduction of the city. We hopped on and off three times and packed in a day of sightseeing. It has cooled down in Montreal. 30 degrees yesterday, 15 today. We sat on the top of the open-topped double-decker bus and alternatively were baked and chilled but enjoyed much of the banter and information and feel we have a good overview of the city.
We jumped off at Oratoire St Joseph and after climbing the 283 steps we managed to step inside the two enormous sanctuaries while services were taking place. The service in the second, higher sanctuary was ending and we were treated to the thundering sounds of the enormous organ.
Back on a later bus and up to Mont-Royal for an easterly view Montreal and of the Olympic Park.
Then down to Vieux Montreal (old town) for a beer and a latte and some serious people watching at a sidewalk cafe. We wandered some of the streets of old town with plans to return tomorrow. From there, we walked to our apartment-hotel - a one-bedroom suite in Centre-ville. We're here for two nights.
