Immersed in Canadian History

We arrived in Ottawa at 5:25 am and sat in a cafe in the airport drinking coffee until the sun came up and people started moving around. We picked up our car and were able to check in to our Airbnb suite at 9:00. We have a two-bedroom suite in a the three-story walkup not far from the parliament buildings. It is perfect for our four-day stop in Ottawa. We fell into bed for two hours then set out before noon to explore.
We wandered Parliament Hill and a few surrounding streets, then went up the Peace Tower (three flights of stairs then a speedy elevator) for a view of Ottawa. We then had a guided tour of the Parliament buildings including a visit to the House of Commons (being renovated to allow for an addition of 30 new seats), the Senate and the amazing Parliamentary Library. While security is evident, the RCMP and security officers are helpful and even hilarious at times.
A quick trip over to Gatineau (no longer Hull) for a brief look around, then we went grocery shopping and returned to our comfortable, air-conditioned suite. Good thing, temperature is in the high 20's and humidity is intense. Can't imagine a really hot day!
